Best Dog-Friendly Trails Near Easton, PA

Great Places to Walk and Hike With Your Dog Near Easton

One of the best things about living in the Lehigh Valley is access to great outdoor spaces. And your dog wants in on every single trail. Here are some of our favorite dog-friendly spots near Easton, PA, the ones we point people at when they ask where to take their dog on a weekend.

Delaware Canal State Park

The towpath along the Delaware Canal stretches for over 58 miles and much of it is flat, wide, and gorgeous. The Easton section offers easy walking along the river with views across the Delaware to New Jersey. Dogs must be on leash, but the trail is long enough for a real workout.

Best for: Leisurely walks, older dogs, and owners who want a flat route with beautiful scenery.

Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center

Just north of Easton in Belfast Township, Jacobsburg has over 1,100 acres of land with multiple trails ranging from easy to moderate. The Bushkill Creek trail corridor is especially beautiful. Dogs are allowed on leash.

Best for: Moderate hikes, nature lovers, dogs who need real terrain.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

A bit farther at about 30 minutes from Easton, but worth the drive. Hundreds of miles of trails, waterfalls, ridge walks, and river access. This is where we take dogs who need big energy days.

Best for: High-energy dogs, longer days out, experienced hikers.

Nockamixon State Park (Bucks County)

About 35 minutes south of Easton, Nockamixon has varied trails around a large lake. Leashes required but the scenery and terrain are excellent.

Best for: Half-day outings, dogs who love water views.

Palmer Township Trail Network

Right in Easton's backyard, Palmer Township has developed a solid network of walking and biking trails. Easy access, no long drive, good for weekday outings.

Best for: Quick weekday exercise, puppies or senior dogs, neighborhood-level outings.

Tips for Trail Hiking With Your Dog

  • Always carry water for both of you. Dogs get dehydrated faster than you think.
  • Check for ticks after every outing. The Lehigh Valley has high tick populations.
  • Start shorter than you think you need to. Build up distance gradually.
  • Know your dog's limits. A 10-mile hike is not right for every dog.

Hilltop itself is daycare and boarding, not a hiking service. What we can do is wear your dog out in a half-acre fenced yard on the days you cannot get to a trail. Come see it on a free tour.
