How Much Does Dog Daycare Cost in the Lehigh Valley?

Most daycares near Easton do not publish a price, which means working it out takes an afternoon of phone calls. Here is the short version.

The range around here

For a single full day of daycare, the local market sits roughly between $40 and $45. For an overnight, it runs from about $50 up to $83, with luxury suites at some places going higher again.

Hilltop is $40 a day and $50 a night.

That range is wider than it looks, because the cheap end and the expensive end are not selling the same thing. A traditional kennel at the bottom of the range houses dogs in runs. A franchise at the top has an indoor playroom, staff on rota and a building. Neither is wrong. They are different products.

The part that is easy to miss

The headline rate is not always the price. Things that commonly get added:

  • A charge to tour the building. Two places near Easton charge $25 before you have booked anything.
  • A feeding fee. Some charge per feeding, even with food you brought.
  • A mandatory bath. One local resort requires one before pickup, around $35.
  • Holiday surcharges. Common across the category, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Evaluation or trial day fees, sometimes several hours long.

None of those are scams. They are normal in the category. But three $2 feedings and a $35 bath turn a $69 night into something closer to $110, and that is worth knowing before you compare two numbers on two websites.

At Hilltop the rate is the rate. Food you bring, medication, yard time and the tour are all included.

What you are actually paying for

Price tracks two things more than anything else: space per dog and who is watching them.

A large facility has more overhead, more staff and more dogs. A home setup has less of all three. That cuts both ways. A facility can take your dog at short notice on a Tuesday in December because it has capacity. We often cannot, because there is one yard and one house.

When you compare places, compare those two things rather than the number. Ask how many dogs are in a group, and ask who is with them.

Is daycare worth it at all

For some dogs it plainly is. A young dog with energy to burn, a dog who is alone nine hours a day, a dog who gets destructive or noisy when bored. For those dogs two or three days a week changes the whole household.

For others it is not the right fit, and we will say so. A dog who finds other dogs stressful is not going to have a good time in a group no matter how nice the yard is. A senior who sleeps eighteen hours a day may be happier at home.

That is part of what the free tour is for. You bring your dog, we watch how they handle the space, and if it is not a good fit we would rather tell you than take the booking.

Ways to bring the cost down

Book regular days rather than ad hoc ones. Most places, us included, would rather know that your dog is here every Tuesday and Thursday than field a text each week.

Half days, where they are offered, suit a lot of schedules and cost less.

Book boarding early. Not cheaper, but it is the difference between getting a spot at Christmas and not.
